Travel and Local Information

Here we provide information about travelling to Vienna and to the conference venue, and tips on what can be seen and done in Vienna.

Coming to Vienna

Vienna's Airport (VIE) is located southeast of the city and is served by all major airlines. All relevant information can be found on their webpage.

For train connections, consult the timetable of the federal railway company (ÖBB). There are direct services to many central european cities.

The workshop will take place down-town Vienna in the new building of the TU Vienna:

       Technische Universitaet Wien
       Wiedner Hauptstrasse 8-10, A-1040 Wien
2nd Floor, Turm B (Yellow Area)
       Hörsaal (HS) 7

There is a list of restaurants, cafes and other places where one can get food near the workshop venue.

The workshop venue is located close to the underground station "Karlsplatz", served by lines U1, U2, and U4. From there, you should take the exit "Resselpark". Once you have reached the surface, just walk through the park towards the entrance of the new university building, as indicated in the map.

You can also take trams 62, 65, the "Wiener Lokalbahn" (inbound only) or bus 4A to stop "Karlsplatz". From there, just descend a staircase and then follow the directions from the underground exit "Resselpark". If you come from the city center with trams 62,65, and "Wiener Lokalbahn", which have a roundabout terminal stop at the Ring (opposite to Hotel Bristol and next to the Staatsoper), you can ride for one stop; the trams stop directly in front of the new university building (which is not the case for trams running in the other direction, towards the city center).

Public transport is very efficient in Vienna, and there are also special priced tickets for tourists. VOR and the Vienna Transport (Wiener Linien) have searchable timetables (you can search for a connection between stops, addresses, and even landmarks [the latter unfortunately only in German]). Be sure to enter "Wien" as Town, "Vienna" will give strange results.

Touristic Informations

An extensive account of travel information for Vienna can be found on the official webpage of the Vienna Tourist Board. The webpage of the city of Vienna offers all sorts of informations on Vienna (including tourist information).
