Edmund Schierer

was born on October 20, 1960 in Vienna, Austria. He graduated from Grammar School in Mödling, Lower Austria in 1975. After his graduation in Electrical Engineering with honors from HTL Mödling, School of Engineering, Austria in 1980, Ed worked at companies throughout Austria: Schrack, a small telecommunications company, followed by a short intermezzo as an electrician, after that at Alcatel, formerly ITT, as a programmer for component testing and telecommunication systems. At last he joined the Siemens Company and became member of the GSM900 Mobile Communications Software development crew (approximately 2000 people or more throughout the world). September 1993 he then began his graduate studies in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Vienna. His main interests are, depending on the seasons, mountain-climbing, reading both good fantasy (like the discworld novels of Terry Pratchett and all of Douglas Adams) and some of the great philosophers, building things which move around and finally, studying. He says studying is the most fun anyone can have by themselves.
