The ReflexWumpus Agent

A Hero, but not in the Wumpus Environment

The reflex agent reacts shortsightetly to his percepts without keeping any memory of prior actions or the generation of an internal field representation. See also: Artificial Intelligence - A Modern Approach by Stuart J. Russel and Peter Norvig.

Strategy for the reflex agent:

If the agent perceives a glitter it grabs the gold.
If it perceives stench it randomly shoots in any of the four directions.
For every other percept the agent either moves randomly or tries to climb out of the cave.

As can easily be seen this is a poor strategy. Using it an agent can not really achieve much in the Wumpus-Environment.

A demonstration shows how miserably the ReflexWumpus agents fares in the Wumpus environment.

Two descendants of the ReflexWumpus agent show substantially more skill in at least surviving in the wumpus world.
